劉孟捷，一個以生命演奏的音樂人。

他的傳奇故事從15 歲登上紐約卡內基音樂廳寫起，21 歲代替鋼琴大師華特(Andre Watts) 演出，驚艷全美，旋即獲邀在美國最頂尖的寇蒂斯音樂學院任教，成為該校最年輕的教師，也是台灣第一位在該校任職的音樂家。

25 歲，正值顛峰狀態的他，卻因為自體免疫疾病，肌肉萎縮，四肢僵硬，逐漸失去演奏音樂的能力。醫生對他說：「你永遠不可能再彈琴了。」他的音樂生涯彷彿被宣判了死刑，再也沒有轉圜餘地。

在家人陪伴下，他接受手術、服藥、復健、練習，經歷無數挫折，用過人的意志力，將被病魔奪走的演奏能力，逐一地拿回來。他超越了自己，打破了不可能。

一場修煉，劉孟捷領悟「心」的力量最強大，讓他重新站上舞台，以更深邃的人生體驗，展現精湛的琴藝。這次，劉孟捷要以鋼琴協奏曲向美國作曲家巴伯百年誕辰致敬，同時演奏柯普蘭、哈比森的作品，與愛樂人分享古典樂裡的美國心靈。

Meng-Chieh Liu, a musician who devotes his life to performing.

His legend began when he performed in the Carnegie Hall in New York at the age of 15 and he stunned the audience in the United States when he substituted for classical pianist Andre Watts at 21 and was soon invited to teach at the top American conservatory, the Curtis Institute of Music, where he became not only the youngest faculty member but the first one from Taiwan.

At the peak of his career at 25, he gradually lost his abilities to perform suffering from an autoimmune disease which led to muscular atrophy and stiff limbs. It was practically a death sentence for his musical career when the doctor declared: "You can never play piano anymore."

Accompanied by his family, he had surgery, he took medications as well as receiving physical therapies and practicing to gradually reclaim the performing skills he lost to the disease and overcame countless setbacks with an iron will. He exceeded his own limits to accomplish the impossible.

After this tribulation, Meng-Chieh Liu has come to realize that the most powerful force that has sustained him to get back on the stage comes from his heart. He demonstrates superb piano technique with a more profound experience in life. This time Meng-Chieh Liu will pay tribute to American composer Samuel Barber at the 100th anniversary of his birth with Piano Concerto and also perform the works by Aaron Copland and John Harbison to share the American spirits with fans of classical music.
